Unit D: Matter & Energy in the Biosphere
TOPIC 1: THE WEB OF LIFE
Just as energy is transferred and lost as various forms through technological systems and cellular activities, so is it cycled through the biosphere. Energy stored in plants is transformed from organism to organism in a food chain, resulting in the large-scale cycling of matter that sustains our planet. Here, you will look closer at this cycle, and investigate how human activities have impacted it over time.
TOPIC 2: ECOSYSTEMS & BIOMES
Ecosystems are shaped by a variety of factors, both living and non-living. Here, you will investigate an Alberta biome of your choosing, and discuss how human activities have impacted its ecology.
